Dictionary of Terms

Here are some common words you'll see in my blog that may sound unfamiliar to you. If you need a translation for something look here!

Fukui ken- This is the prefecture (state) that I call home in Japan.
Awara shi- The city that I live in.
Kanazu Koo Koo- translates to Kanazu High School. This is the school that I work for.
Onsen- Hot Spring. This is a traditional public bath in Japan.
Inaka- literally means countryside. or country. Sealy or Bellville Texas, for example, is super Inaka.
Ichi-nensei- First year students (equivalent of freshmen)
Ni nensei- second hear students
San nensei- third year students (equivalent of seniors)
Enkai- a drinking party with your coworkers.
ALT- Assistant Language Teacher. A native English teacher who teaches in Japan. This is my job title.
JTE- Japanese Teacher of English. These people are Japanese teachers trained to teach English. I work with them daily.
Kocho sensei- Principal of a school
Kyoto sensei- Vice Principal of a school.
